Dutch ensemble Ferreck Dawn and Redondo dominated the commercial house market in 2014 with a solid run of original material between them. Back on Spinnin’ Deep to follow-up euro hit “Love Too Deep” and Redondo’s own “Sunshine” alongside Boiler, their latest collaborative offering tests the lifespan of popularised club music that is already drawing comparisons to the lifecycle of the big room boom.
“Something Else” is another fine example of where the prospect of opening things up to a wider audience can still maintain that essential club functionality. The trio seems uninterested in adding to the disputable revolution of commercial house music, but rather fuelling it with material that trumps the competition on the merits of quality and cultural relevance considerably. As has become their musical calling card to date, Ferreck Dawn and Redondo’s latest attempt at keeping the flame for the genre’s popularisation is the kind of dignified and downright infectious standard that the sound deserves in 2015.
