Uniquely designed from 38.5 , the model has only been on sale a few hours on the e -shop and Nike is already sold out. A clear sign that the basketball craze continues to attract twenty- seven years after arriving in the streets.
The Birth Of The AirMax
It all began in 1981 when the architect Tinker Hatfield was hired by Nike’s designer offices, showrooms and other workspaces. After four years of trying to change the internal image of Nike, Tinker Hatfield was propelled to the front of the stage: he is now called upon to draw shoes. A revealing appointment, which emphasizes the special relationship between architecture and basketball at Nike .
The first big project in which the architect has been dedicated is the Air Max 1, complete with controversial air bubble. A model that would not have been possible without Paris. Indeed, during a trip to the capital, Tinker Hatfield went to the Pompidou Centre found this monument to be an intriguing glimpse into Paris – and has also experienced controversy so it contrasts with the Haussmann buildings the capitale. The museum visit had an effect on Tinker Hatfield. In a video on the history of the shoe, he says:
I am convinced that if I had not seen Beaubourg, I probably would not have suggested that these air cushions , which makes them visible and shows that the inside of the shoe is exposed.
On 26 March 1987, the first model of Air Max 1 , wearing a bright red, is introduced on the market. A shoe that inspires everyone.
Despite criticism suffered by the Air Max since its appearance, the basketball shoe came to dominate, to become one, if not the iconic Nike model. Every year, the brand has reinvented his style, giving rise to an infinite number of variations including the Air Max Light , the Air Max Lunar90 or the Nike Air Max 1 Grey / Volt . Despite the passing years , the sneakers continue to face competition and recently experienced a huge success, especially with the new generation.
In the 2000s, the Air Max is a source of inspiration for many artists and of course rappers: The Game and 50 Cent ( “I’ll kill you if you try me for my Air Max 95 “) Dom Kennedy (“Air Max 95 because I’m a dope runner”) , Rohff (“Air Max matched to an official release”) or Grems (“My first Air Max after my first 200g”), all pay homage through their verses .
