A platform dedicated to music, artists, and music lovers around the globe Instagram yesterday rolled out an official new site @music the first of its kind in a channel aimed directly at the music community.
The new extension from the main site of the popular photo sharing platform that has over 60 million followers is to showcase the most talented and creative members of the music community within the new channel “dedicated to exploring music around the globe, from those who create it to the community around it.” it goes on to say in an official statement from Instagram founder Kevin Systrom on the official blog.
Each week @music will bring to the new account six posts which will cover “all facets of the musical experience”, from established stars, up-and-comers and session players to fans, instruments, lyrics, studio and live events.
There will be six posts per week, grouped into series like #LocallySourced (unsigned acts), #DoubleTrack (focus on artists’ interests outside of music), and #15SecondLessons (videos on how to perform everything from riffs to drumbeats) as a few examples.
“Music is a huge part of all of our lives here at Instagram. It’s a passion of ours, and we know it’s a passion of yours. So follow along at @music – we think you’ll discover something new,” said Instagram CEO Kevin Systrom.
