The final Sunday of Miami Music Week 2015 was no day of rest for Jamie Jones. Even after a week of playing parties such as Basement and his own Paradise event, the last stretch was still yet to come, as the Hot Creations co-founder was set to close out the new Resistance stage at Ultra Music Festival.
Before that, though, he sat down with the Beatport Lounge for a exclusive chat about partying in Miami, the persistent ‘underground’ vs. ‘mainstream’ debate and his future music plans.
As he recalled it, Jones’ first trip to Miami Music Week (then known primarily as the Winter Music Conference) was back in 2008. During his years there, he got a sense of the city’s “crazy” vibe when partying at the now-closed local spot Pawn Shop, a club filled with quirky collectibles and a truck-turned-DJ booth.
From there, we heard about his dream vocal collaborators – people with “interesting” voices like Chaka Khan, Kate Bush and Björk – and plans for Emerald City, his new record label with Lee Foss. The first release from the label – Serge Devant and Damiano’s “Fearing Love” – is out now, including a remix from the two label bosses. Get into our interview with Jamie Jones below.
