It is known among fans of Steve Aoki that being caked at his live shows is an honor and privilege. However, the beloved dessert smashing tradition, which he stopped doing in Summer of 2015, has came back to haunt him. Last week, the combined celebration of his 39th birthday and the 20th anniversary of Dim Mak Records ended in silence when an excited fan decided to change things up by throwing cake back at Aoki.
The seemingly innocent act of admiration didn’t turn out as planned when the cake fell from Steve Aoki’s face on to the turntables, malfunctioning the equipment and stopping the music entirely.
