I guess one of the first electronic records that I bought was Around the World by Daft Punk on their Homework album. I’m sure it’s a cliché to talk reference Daft Punk, but I wasn’t listening to electronic music at the time, and it was an inspiration. It has a groove with a Chic-esque bassline and vocoder vocals that are very catchy. The record is futuristic, yet built on Funk and Disco. It has very few musical elements (I think only 5-6) yet it is able to keep your interest with a clever arrangement and progression. This track influences me still today in my productions and sets because less is truly more when done correctly. As French writer Antoine de Saint-Exupery once said, “Perfection is achieved not when there is more to add, but when there is nothing left to take away”.
